Battlecry Game Statues

Here are two statue sculpts I did for the Besthesda booth at E3 this year, they were produced at life-sized scale.  These are both Enforcer class characters (a tank class with a large slashing weapon) the female is a member of the Russian Cossack faction, the male is a British Royal Marine.  Rendered in Marmoset 2.

I've been making a concerted effort this year to improve my painting ability.  This horse painting was one of my studies, and I think it was fairly successful.

Wonder Man

Had a rough week with one of the worst cases of the flu I've had in about 10 years. I'm finally starting to feel back to normal, and spent today finishing up this Wonder Man sculpt for Bowen Designs I've been picking away at for awhile.  Rendered in Keyshot 4.

I've been playing with the rendering program, Keyshot for the past couple of weeks, I still don't really know what I'm doing, but I'm getting some decent results anyway with my Gamora Zbrush sculpt.

Gamora Statue

This is a statue I sculpted in Zbrush of Gamora from The Guardians of the Galaxy (Marvel Comics), with the movie coming out next summer I think this team is going to become a lot more popular...and who doesn't like green chicks?

Captain Marvel

Thought I'd post a turntable of my latest Bowen sculpt, Carol Danvers as the new Captain Marvel.  Originally this was done on spec, but Randy has decided to go ahead and produce it.

This is a piece I've been working on for awhile off and on during downtime.  I don't get the chance to sculpt superheroes much these days and I miss it.  Plus I just dig Rogue. :)

New Batman Shot

I just got some new photos from the guy who painted my Batman 3d print, some were pretty cool so I thought I'd throw one up on the blog.

Another statue for Bowen Designs of Marvel comics villain, Magneto.

Thursday, March 31, 2011

Please excuse the watermark, my employer, Randy Bowen, likes to have it on images done for his studio that are publicly posted. This is the digital version of a Marvel Wasp statue I just completed, I have a classic version in the works as well.

Batman Statue

This is a Batman statue I made for a project that was scrapped, but I like how it turned out.

Bowen Designs Statues

Been a long time since I've updated my blog, but I've been super busy. About a year ago I started sculpting statues on the side for Bowen Designs, I'm a huge fan and collector of Randy Bowen's work and it was a real honor for me to get an opportunity to work for him. Not to mention I LOVE Marvel's characters so it was a dream gig and I hope to get the opportunity to do more if my day job at Sony allows me the time.

Overwatch 3d Print

My buddy Des from created this marvelous 12 inch 3d print of Overwatch, I'm very happy with the results. I'll be getting a faux bronze version soon, and an electroplated gold version. I can't recommend Ownage enough, great quality and attention to detail at an affordable price.

The Final Result

Well the results are in, Overwatch was awarded First Prize (second place to the Grand Prize Winner) in the Zbrush Central Action Hero contest.  The final judging was done through voting by the Zbrush Central community after the finalists were chosen by a panel of expert judges.  The Grand Prize winner was Chris Moffitt with his Dr. Root model (a fellow Texan), Second Prize went to Martin Beyer of Germany and Hedgehog, Third Prize went to Canadian artist Adrien Debos and Captain Hornet, Fourth Prize went to my good buddy Yongkiat Karnchanapayap (Yong for short) of Thailand with Mantis Man, and Honorable Mention went to Furio Tedeschi of Austrailia for his Gra 'Nok model.  It was a long two month haul, with a lot of late nights, but it was well worth the effort.  I met a lot of great artists and made some wonderful friends through it all and I'm very glad I I need to find a way to scrape up some money to get Overwatch 3d printed! ;)

The Finals

I was fortunate enough to be included amongst the finalists in the Zbrush Central Action Hero Contest.  There are a lot of awesome entries, I thought I'd put an image together here of the 10's cool to see them all together like this, any one of these would be a great first place winner.  Now the voting switches over to the Zbrush Central useres to decide who places where.  I just want to thank the judges, and the great artists that made these outstanding characters, they all pushed me harder and inspired me to make Overwatch as good as he could be.

Overwatch Finished

I've just wrapped up my final entry for the Zbrush Central Action Hero contest.  It was a great experience, I learned a few new things about Zbrush, and met a lot of other artists.  I may enter the Dominance War competition coming up shortly, but I haven't decided for sure yet.  Here's a link to the model turntable movie on youtube...

Overwatch Update

Got the base, rocks, and such sculpted for the base and refined his suit and helmet further, also made his head a tad bigger.  Then I started fooling around with lighting using the basic zbrush materials since the matcaps don't accept light information.  Not sold on this lighting just experimenting.

Overwatch Update 3

Added some sandbags to the base and some spent 7.62 shells, refined the arm poses, added a PDA to his left arm, some flares to his right boot, and a few other tweaks.

Project: Overwatch

I entered the Action Hero contest on Zbrush Central over the Christmas break.  The character I came up with, Overwatch, is a former Navy SEAL who sacrificed himself to save his comrades.  Rescued and physically enhanced by a secret military project he's been reborn as a super soldier who can fire microwave beams from his eye reticle with pinpoint accuracy.  Here's the concept sketch I did for him as well as a low poly posed turnaround.  I wanted to block out the pose before I started the sculpting process.

Jim Lee and Batman

Here's a photo of Jim Lee drawing on my Batman at the comic con fan appreciation party, he had just taken a photo with Mark Hammil in front of this moments before.

Wednesday, November 26, 2008

Here's the Batman poster that we showed at Comic Con this year. It's a combo piece by myself and another artist at Sony. I sculpted, textured, and lit Batman, and Mike Pedro did the background and other 2d refinements.
